More information about Vintage Soapstone Carving of Inuit Native Indian

splendid example of a vintage soapstone carving done by the Inuit Native Indians in Canada, sometimes known as Eskimos. Eskimos often used to refer to the Inuit people, but it is considered a derogatory term and should not be used; "Inuit" is the preferred term, meaning "the people" in their language and is considered the correct way to refer to this group of indigenous people from the Arctic region. This Image shows an Inuit Native figure, dressed in his sealskins, and playing a traditional frame Drum called a Qilaut. It stands about 10 inches tall and 8 inches wide, clearly carved "Canada" on its base, and in incredibly good condition.
